Monitoring City Regions is a long-term research and development initiative of the ILS that tracks spatial development processes in Germany's largest city regions. The project provides a small-area, indicator-based monitoring system that enables the analysis of long-term trends within core cities and their surrounding areas. Results are made publicly available through an interactive WebGIS platform.studies. In addition, the ILS led the spatial analyses and supported the development of interactive maps to visualise regional inequalities across Europe.
Monitoring City Regions provides researchers, planners, and policymakers with a consistent and comparable evidence base for analysing urbanisation and regional transformation processes. As a continuously evolving platform, it supports both scientific research and evidence-based spatial planning.
