Efficiently structured processes reduce bureaucracy and optimise the use of available resources in the institute. In addition, the commercial department sees itself as a qualified service unit for supporting the scientists.<\/p>\n<p>The colleagues of the human resources team are the contact persons for all personnel matters of the employees. In addition to the support of the employees, the focus is on personnel recruitment and development. Furthermore, topics such as travel expenses, and all other questions relating to human resources are dealt with.<\/p>\n<p>Using modern controlling instruments, financial planning is used to plan and implement all financially relevant measures. The tasks of controlling range from the cost-benefit accounting, project budgeting and support in the calculation of third-party funded projects to internal reporting. The main tasks of accounting are bookkeeping, invoicing and the highly complex administration of third-party funded projects and project accounting.<\/p>\n<p>The information technology (IT) is a part of the commercial department and provides the infrastructure which is required for processing the variety of tasks. This includes the support of all ILS employees in case of technical problems. The technical maintenance of the ILS network, the telephone system and other technical equipment are as much a part of the IT teams\u2019 tasks as the provision of up-to-date hardware and software.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main tasks of procurement is to process quotations and bid invitations based on the purchase requisitions of the individual organisational units, and to monitor effectively the binding delivery dates.
