Partnerships
Partnerships foster synergies, interdisciplinarity and internationality – all factors which help to set the standard for research today. These factors increase the scope for strategic action within research. Only through functioning partnerships is it possible to deploy complementary strengths to optimum effect and to achieve outcomes which are beneficial to all parties. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly common for applications for external funding to be prepared by research partnerships.
The ILS sees its role as a node in research networks. As a partner in co-operative ventures, it is particularly effective in tapping into and assembling existing competencies, in identifying areas which require research or action, framing research questions on new issues, or contributing to the growth of knowledge through its own research findings. In addition to universities and non-university research institutes, the ILS’s other partners include the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL), the German Academy for Town and Regional Planning (DASL), various foundations and initiatives, as well as such local actors as public-transport providers, housing associations, and architectural and planning practices.
